COMPETITIVENESS OF THE NIGERIAN TEXTILE INDUSTRY

Expert has called on key players in the Nigeria textile  firms to encourage and explore other African regional markets since there is a growing  in neighbouring countries.This was the outcome of the 2017 NISER(NRSS) meeting at  the NISER headquarters in ibadan recently .delievering a paper titled Competiveness Of The Nigerian Textile Industry.Dr Bashir Adelowo Wahab from economic policy Research department of the institute noted that Nigeria Textile firms  should not compromise on quality and standard.Adding that all efforts of the African Growth and opportunity Act (AGOA) in the training the traditional Cloth weavers in the standardization and packaging of textile products for competitiveness should be encouraged and strengthenend. The  paper however want the government to look into the critical infrastructures such as electricity,water and  transportation in order to improve capacity utilization of firms.
