Some Reasons for Follout between Tinubu and Ambode

Governor Akinwumi Ambode’s rise to prominence in Lagos didn’t start in 2015 before his emergence as Lagos governor, already he had served as a civil servant in a career stranding diverse roles in accounting consultancy for 27 years.
Due to his loyalty to the political hierarchy of Lagos state he was considered as the heir fit to take the mantle of Lagos political leadership from Babatunde Raji Fashola.
In 2015, Ambode beat other political giants  to become the governor of  state.
Fast forward to 2018, with a couple of months to the end of his first-term tenure, Governor Ambode’s desire to continue another 4-year term has been met with rejection due to differences that took an irreconcilable turn with the political bigwigs in the state, including his estranged godfather Asiwaju Tinubu and 57 council chairmen.
This development has made the state’s stakeholders to take a new dimension, pledging their support to Sanwo-Olu, Tinubu’s newly found political godson.
5 reasons responsible for the fallout between Asiwaju Tinubu and Governor Ambode
Governor Akinwumi Ambode of Lagos state
We try to identifies the possible reasons why Tinubu-Ambode’s rift may deny the governor his second term dream.
Refuse disposal policy
Lagos was believed to be one of the dirtiest cities in the country due to its overcrowding population. Immediately Fashola mounted the leadership seat, he was said to have introduced programmes against indiscriminate dumping of refuse and open defecation. This legacy which was geared towards transforming Lagos into a mega city was allegedly dropped by Governor Ambode leading to bodies like Private Sectors Participants Operator (PSP) registering displeasure with his policy on waste management.
Recently, there is a rise in the criticism levelled against the effectiveness of Lagos Agency on Waste Management (LAWMA).
We gathered that many community leaders in Lagos  appealed to Tinubu to intervene in Lagos PSP waste operators’ clash.
5 reasons responsible for the fallout between Asiwaju Tinubu and Governor Ambode
Waste on Lagos streets
Ambode's alleged arrogance
Governor Ambode’s obedience and loyalty which made him the darling of Lagos political hierarchy was said to have suddenly disappeared few months after he became the governor. He was alleged to be politically aloof.
He was accused of running the state as one-man affairs. Without any doubt, one wonders why his influence among the 57 council chairmen and commissioners dwindled down at the time he needed them most.
Lack of political savvy by Ambode
The present internal crisis in Lagos has raised up a debate over who is politically savvy between Governor Ambode and his predecessor, Fashola (SAN). Ambode’s leadership, as rumoured by residents, was said to have lacked the political wit to accommodate loyalty for a vibrant progressive cause. There are usually questions about some of the governor’s policies, the effectiveness of some of the ministries under his watch.
He was alleged of running an aloof government strange to the grassroots. The offshoot of this is what has made the council chairmen to drive their support for the APC-Mandate group endorsed Sanwo-Olu.
As expected, this has generated controversy in the state as tension mounts on the Lagos governor to drop his ambition.

Ambode's failure to carry others along
During the recent APC campaign in Osun Lagos state first lady pleaded with Asiwaju Tinubu on behalf of his husband. Some pundits said the move by Mrs Bolanle Ambode was to persuade the ex-governor of the state into overlooking the way her husband suddenly dished him away, having walked on his back to power.

The governor was accused of not informing the Lion of Bourdillon before introducing new policies. He was also accused of not building on the legacy of the APC national leader, making Asiwaju to wait till the time of reckoning before he takes his pound of flesh.
Of great note is a rumour in the media that Governor Ambode and the Obasa-led Lagos Assembly were at loggerhead making the former to wage impeachment war against the governor if he attempted to re-contest.
As things unfold, attempts by major stakeholders to drive Ambode’s love back to the heart of Tinubu have been met with disappointment. Tinubu's
Tinubu's political will to give new faces chance
For those who don't know him, Sanwo-olu was a former commissioner in Lagos state and a loyal disciple to Tinubu's political ideology. Findings indicate that Sanwo-olu, like Ambode, has set his eyes on the number political seat of the state for a long time.
After the eight-year administration of Babatunde Fashola, Sanwo-olu was reported to be among the 10 leading contenders to register their interest before Ambode got the nods of the state's political stakeholders.
Immediately Ambode indicated his desire to contest again, crisis reportedly started brewing in the the Lagos APC camp. But in his bid to avert the crisis as a national leader of APC and ex-governor of the state, Tinubu, riding on his alleged displeasure for the Ambode-led government, decided to give new faces chances.

As things stand, the APC primary election is in few days, and there is no certainty that Ambode will get the nods of his party leaders in the state

Amaju Pinnick re-elected as Nigeria Football Federation president

Amaju Pinnick has been re-elected as the president of the Nigeria Football Federation in Katsina for the next four years.
Pinnick polled a total of 34 out of 44 votes, while former NFF boss Maigari had eight and Ogunjobi had just two votes.
The former Delta state Football Association chairman beat his predecessor Aminu Maigari, Taiwo Ogunjobi and Chinedu Okoye in what could be referred to as a land slide victory.
The 45-year-old administrator becomes the first to be re-elected as the country's football association boss.
Pinnick was initially elected into the office of the NFF in September 2014 - beating Dominic Iorfa, Abba Yola and Taiwo Ogunjobi to the seat.
Amaju Pinnick was reportedly told by the Federal Government to step down from his current position as the Nigeria Football Federation president.
This according to a statement from the Ministry of Youth and Sports which is under current Nigeria's Sports Minister Solomon Dalung.
The statement from the Ministry of Sports restored the orders of the Federal High Court setting aside the election into the Executive Committee of the NFF held on September 30, 2014 which brought in Amaju Pinnick.
Sports Minister Solomon Dalung made it clear through his media aide Nneka Ikem Anibeze that he has been ordered by the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice to stop Amaju Pinnick from parading himself as the NFF boss.

Court summons Bukola Saraki over Offa bank robbery incident

An Abuja court has summoned the Senate president, Bukola Saraki, to appear before it regarding a criminal complaint initiated against him by a private lawyer in respect of the bank robbery incident which occurred in Offa, Kwara state.
The summons, issued by a grade I area court in Aco Estate, Lugbe, Abuja, directed the inspector-general of police, (IGP) Ibrahim Idris, to serve a summons on the Senate president regarding the legal action.
The legal action was reportedly initiated by an Abuja-based lawyer and rights activist, Oluwatosin Ojaomo.
Counsel to the litigant on Monday, September 17, told journalists that the police boss had taken steps to serve the Bukola Saraki the summons.
The litigant was reported to have initiated the action against Saraki under section 89(5) of the administration of criminal justice act (ACJA) 2015.
The action sought that Saraki be summoned for allegedly ignoring police invitation to answer to an allegation involving the investigation of the suspects of the Offa robbery.
The complaint stated that Saraki’s alleged refusal to honour the invitation amounted to obstructing a criminal investigation and disobeying a public officer carrying out a lawful responsibility.
“The defendant is not in court. At the last date, the court issued a witness summons on the IGP to come and show cause why the police failed to effect service of the criminal summons, warrant of arrest and other processes on the defendant,” the counsel to the litigant, Marcus said.
“The witness summons was served on the Nigeria Police Force by the court’s registry.
“However, we received a call from DSP Mahmoud of the Legal Department of the Nigeria Police Force headquarters, that the matter has been assigned by the IGP to a particular unit of the NPF to effect the service of the summons on the defendant and arrest him.”
Marcus said, his client was supposed to serve Saraki the court papers but since his client could not the Senate president as ordered by the court, he applied, under section 122 of the ACJA, for the IGP to help effect service on the defendant.
Meanwhile, Bukola Saraki, the president of the Senate and presidential aspirant on the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) platform, says the north central deserves a chance come 2019.
Saraki made the statement while addressing party faithful and supporters in Jos on Sunday, September 16.

Charging of phones in churches is a sin - Cleric

Bishop Michael Osagie, the general overseer of the Bible Believers Ministry, on Tuesday, September 18, declared that charging phones or fighting over electric sockets in church is a sin and against the laws of the church.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Michael made this known in an interview at the Bible Believers Ministry in Oluku, Benin, Edo state.
Michael reportedly condemned the attitude of charging phones, note pads, touch lights amongst others, while church service was going, saying it was a major distraction to the preacher.
“Sometimes when I preach on the altar, I get distracted, because I see some of my members fighting over charging points.
“I am amazed how believers of the gospel take the things of the Lord these days,” he said.
The Christian cleric pleaded with the Edo government and the Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC) to look into the poor power supply in the state with the view of improving it.
Reacting to the preacher’s insinuation, Ruth Ikoko, an usher of the church said that she was guilty of the sin as her area had serious electricity problem.
She said that she came to church regularly to charge her phone and to also worship the Lord.
Ruth expressed the hope that the power situation would improve in her area so that she would stop charging her phone in the church.

Poor funding bane behind Nigerian varsities business enterprises - VC

Contrary to the general view that education should be free, the incumbent vice-chancellor of Modibbo Adama University of Technology (MAUTECH), Adamawa state, Professor Mohammed Kyari has blown bags of dust into the eyes of the education system in the country, saying almost universities in the country have become business-oriented due to the poor funding and management factor
Madibo stated this while answering questions from the journalists on problems impending the university education system in Nigeria.
Answering question on  how the universities in the country have been able to be creative in order to maintain quality close to the global standard, the VC remarked: "How creative can they be and what else can they do? Nigerian universities literally have become business outlets.
"Universities are selling table water, running bakeries and commercial bus services or guest house services. This is no way to run a university. It can never fund universities. The bottom line is that as long as universities are not sufficiently funded to do basic teaching and research, they cannot function.
"Creativity will be constrained because you cannot be creative when you don’t have the resources. Sometimes we switch off electricity because we can’t pay for electricity. There would be public electricity supply, but we’ll have to switch off simply because we cannot afford the cost.
"We require about N20m per month to maintain the university on public power supply. But, whatever government gives may be sufficient for only three months of the year, not for 12 months. So you have to be creative. But creativity is in how to run the university within limited resources.
Kyari also talked about the funding of the university education in Nigeria. He said: "Funding is key to any organisation, not only to education. But the federal government’s policy is that there should be no tuition fees in the public universities and we abide by it. But then, if you say there’s no tuition fees, who is going to pay the cost?
"The cost will have to be borne by the government. So there is a gap between not paying fees, which is the policy and the inability of government to fund universities to the optimum. That’s the bottom line.
"It is either parents or the students will have to pay or government will have to pay up so that you get the quality education you require. If that does not happen then you cannot get the optimum. But somehow we are surviving under very difficult circumstances.
"But, remember that government is paying 100 per cent of our personnel costs, which is huge. For this university, it is above N3bn per annum. So by the time government pays N3bn on personnel alone, then there isn’t much left for the purpose of teaching and research, as well as for buying equipment and reagents in the laboratories.
"So government will have to come up with a form of a sustainable way of having to fund the university system."
Meanwhile. MAUTECH re-wrote history by appointing Hajiya Halima Mohammed as its first female registrar, breaking a long existing jinx in the male dominated system.
Sa’ad Aliyu, the acting information officer of the university, in a statement once sent out, announced this development in the state's capital, Yola, on Wednesday, September 5.
