The world’s football governing body FIFA has placed a life ban on Ghanaian football referee Joseph Odartei Lamptey from taking part in any kind of football-related activity with immediate effect.

Lamptey was found guilty of breaching art. 69 par. 1 (unlawfully influencing match results) of the FIFA Disciplinary Code. The offence was said to have been committed on November 12, 2016, during the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia qualifying match between South Africa and Senegal.
However, David Lionheart Nii Lartey Laryea who served as the match commissioner had all charges against him dismissed by the committee.
FIFA has also promised to provide more information as investigations on the case continues.
The world’s football governing body adopts a zero-tolerance policy on match fixing and has re-instated that it is committed to protecting the integrity of football.

Recall that popular Nigerian football administrator Amos Adamu also suffered the wrath of the world football governing body FIFA which banned him from all football related activities for a till 2019.
FIFA ethics committee explained that the 64-year-old football administrator was involved in the organisation of an event in 2010 and was found guilty of violating general rules and conflict of interest.
Adamu was a FIFA executive committee member in 2010 when Russia and Qatar won hosting rights for the 2018 and 2022 World Cups.
