Chelsea's campaign in the 2017/18 UEFA Champions League came to an end on Wednesday night, March 14, after losing 0-3 against Spanish leaders Barcelona.
Argentine superstar Lionel Messi proved himself again against the Blues as he scored the first goal and also gave a superb assist that resulted into the second goal for the Catalans.
Chelsea went into the match knowing fully well that they must score at the Camp Nou for them to have the chance of reaching the quarter final after the first leg ended 1-1.
But the Blues were made to pay for their gaffe in the 3rd minute when Lionel Messi scored the first goal after being assisted by Luis Suarez.
Belgian star Eden Hazard and Willian combined well in the 7th minute to set up Frenchman Olivier Giroud, but the ex Arsenal man was unable to beat Marc Stegen in goal for Barcelona.
Ousmane Dembele added some salt into the wound of Chelsea fans when he scored the second goal for Barcelona in the 20th minute after being superbly assisted by Lionel Messi.
The first half however ended 2-0 in favor of Spanish giants Barcelona.
Chelsea came out aggressive in the second half, but the trio of Eden Hazard, Willian and Giroud were unable to dispatch Barcelona defense.
Barcelona scored their third goal in the 63rd minute through Lionel Messi who was assisted by former Liverpool star Luis Suarez.
The Catalan giants however won the match 3-0 and qualified for the quarter final of the Champions League on 4-1 aggregate.
