Pope Francis landed in Abu Dhabi on Sunday February 3rd 2019 to begin a historic three-day visit. A pope is making a trip to the UAE for the first time ever.
Pope Francis was greeted by Abu Dhabi's Crown Prince Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed al-Nahyan, who escorted him to meet Sheikh Ahmed al-Tayeb, the Grand Imam of Egypt's Al-Azhar mosque and university, one of the main seats of learning of Sunni Islam. The pontiff embraced him.

Prior to his flight to the Gulf, Pope Francis tweeted: “I am about to leave for the United Arab Emirates. I am visiting that Country as a brother, in order to write a page of dialogue together, and to travel paths of peace together. Pray for me!”
